How we started

The Allotment Society was formed in 1999 when, allotments having fallen out of fashion, the largely derelict site in Moorfield Road was earmarked for potential development.  Draft plans for eight houses were drawn up and a campaign was launched by the allotment holders to save their plots,  The old hands were joined by new aspiring veg growers and the allotment field was slowly brought back into full use.

TV gardeners, celebrity chefs and a recession have since made kitchen gardening (and allotments) cool again.

What we do

*  hold social events - notably a summer family barbecue

*  support veg growing competitions

*  provide a secure store on the allotments

*  run discounted seed schemes

*  represent interests of allotment holders to the Parish

   Council (who own the allotments)

We are affiliated to the National Allotment Association, and the Royal Horticultural Society which means we have access to expert advice and support on a national level.
